My Daily Prayer

"I pray that Yeshua, will Lead me, Teach me, Bless me, That HIS will, is my will. That HE will allow me to touch all those that I meet with HIS great LOVE. That they see HIM not me. That he will allow me to show great Love, Passion and Strength to the mate HE has chosen for me as we die daily to serve HIM. That we Unite and become One under HIS loving arms of Grace and Mercy", Amen and Amen. Hello Kat!

AirGun's and PCP...

PCPs (Pre-Charged Pneumatics) are airguns that are charged or filled with compressed air using special hand pumps and air compressors that produce 2000-4000 psi, which is not your standard bicycle air pump.

Hand pumps cost a couple hundred dollars and compressors start at 3000 and go up. So PCPs are for your serious air gunners or those like me you have problems with springers and CO2 that keep your buying CO2 cartridges over and over. There are refillable cartridges but they have not been adopted widely or at all. So if you are a avid airgunner you could spent a small fortune just on CO2 alone, up to twenty dollars a day just on CO2. At that pace you could buy a hand pump instead of ten days of CO2, or 160 days for a low end compressor. The PCPs history goes back further than Lewis and Clark where a PCP was used during the Louisiana Purchase Expedition

The celebrated expedition headed by Lewis and Clark (1804) carried a reservoir air gun, later believed to be the Girandoni Military Repeating Air rifle in Dr Robert Beeman's Collection.[citation needed] It held 22 round balls in a tubular magazine mounted on the side of the barrel. The butt stock served as the air reservoir and had a working pressure of 800 PSI. The rifle was said to be capable of 22 aimed shots in one minute. However, that air rifle is measured to have a rifled bore of .452" and a groove diameter 0.462".[1]

Today's modern air guns are typically low-powered because of safety concerns and legal restrictions; however, high-powered designs are still used for hunting.

These air rifles can propel a pellet beyond 1100 ft/s (330 m/s), approximately the speed of sound, and produce a noise similar to a .22 caliber rimfire rifle. Using lead pellets, some current spring powered .177 pellet guns can break the sound barrier. Most low-powered air guns can be safely fired in a backyard or garden, and even indoors, with a proper backstop.

In the past few years .177 has become popular because of concerns of people using the air guns in the suburban use IMHO.  I  tinkered with .177  and .20 cal's but found the .22 to have the knock down power that I preferred. I shoot small targets at the limits of air guns range. I look forward to moving up to .25 cal. With my shoulder injury I find that using a springer is not as steady as it could be, and the CO2 just does not have the range or power I wish to have.

The is a saying the the only difference between men and boys is the price of their toys, but airguns are no longer considered as toys. Your "High End" airguns are priced higher than some firearms, but as the price of firearm ammunition goes up air guns look better and better. So this is the year of PCPs in airguns and .25 caliber's is becoming a popular pellet. Be sure to go to Pyramyd Air and see the new products are this year. The community and industry is finally being recognized among the gun community. Air guns are now being used widely as the need to keep agencies in practice and hone their skills, at a lower price to us, the community and taxpayers.

Help With Swollen Feet

This is a personal request. If anybody that reads this blog, could please reply if you have any information on how to reduce the swollen on my feet. I have been under depression for about a year and un-employed and un-insured since my injury at work in Sept of  2007.  I do not have access to free medical care and need to treat myself at all possible. From 2008 to present I have not been able to lose any weight and am gaining weight dispite my efforts to lose it.  Till lately I have not had the excersize I have needed and the weather has not been has well as I like for my shoulder which is still painful after all this time. The cold just tears my shoulder up.  I will be glad when the weather improves and I can get out and cycle and walk.  In the mean time my feet are getting worse and I seem to be sleeping more than I like to. Are there any natural foods or herbs that could help me? Thank you in advance for your replies, prayer and attention to my condition.

"24" is a Great TV show.

24 is an American serial action/drama television series broadcast by Fox in the United States and syndicated worldwide. The series debuted November 6, 2001.[1]

The story of 24 is presented in the semblance of real time. Each season depicts a 24-hour period in the life of Jack Bauer, who works with the United States government as it fights fictitious terrorist threats to the United States. Bauer is often in the field for the Los Angeles Counter Terrorist Unit (CTU) as it tries to safeguard the nation from terrorist threats. The show also follows the actions of associated CTU agents, government officials and terrorists.

24 is the second longest-running espionage-themed series in television history, behind The Avengers by longevity of broadcast. It surpassed the original Mission: Impossible series by number of episodes with the eighth season, after the conclusion of which 24 will overtake The Avengers. Kiefer Sutherland is currently only under contract until the end of the eighth season, but is "absolutely open" to return for a ninth season. Formal talks regarding a ninth season will commence during the airing of the eighth season.

If you have not seen this show you really need to give it a chance. Before I was through the first 24 shows I was hooked, all the way. Each season is a series of 24 hours of real time.

New Twist on the Rocket Stove...

Revisiting the rocket stove in "Clay".

Maybe building it on a turntable would be a good idea. That way you could control the air flow coming in. This is of course only if you are outside. I would think I would want one just a bit bigger, maybe for a 8-9 inch skillet.

The Crosman Silhouette PCP pistol - Part 1

Tom-bio-3 by B.B. Pelletier
This is a Air guns - Pyramyd Air Report .  Go here for the full blog. Also stop by and listen to Pyramyd Air Waves.

02-18-10-01

My first experience with the Silhouette was when field target champion Ray Apelles brought a prototype to the American Airgunner studio in the Catskills on the day when he and his father came to film an episode on field target. Ray let me try the gun and, sitting in the Creedmore position for handguns, I was able to clip weed stems at 23 yards.
For most of the summer, I thought the Silhouette was the only precharged pistol Crosman was bringing out, and for a time it looked to me like they might release it in the fall of 2009. They didn't, but it's coming out now and I have a sample to test for you.
If nothing else, this pistol may help us all with the difficult spelling of the word silhouette! Now, if everyone could just learn how to spell Crosman.   Please go here to continue….

MSI Wind U160 With 15 Hour Battery Life

By Kevin C. Tofel Feb. 18, 2010, 11:45am CST
For the full article go to here.
wind-u160
One of the newest netbooks from MSI, the Wind U160, is now appearing on an Amazon pre-order page. Hector Gomez, one of our eagle-eyed readers, spotted the page along with the $379.99 price tag. Amazon isn’t sharing the release date just yet, but I figure it should be within the next few weeks. After all, this device was spotted at the Consumer Electronics Show last month and uses what I’d consider common bits of hardware for netbooks of today.
The 1.66 GHz Intel Atom N450 powers Microsoft Windows 7 Starter Edition running on 1 GB of RAM. MSI says the U160 offers one memory slot — again, a common theme among netbooks — and supports a single 2 GB memory module. These days, that RAM stick shouldn’t cost much more than $40 or $50. MSI tucked in a 250 GB hard drive and support for 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi for better range and faster wireless transfers. A fairly standard 1.3 megapixel webcam, Bluetooth and memory card reader are also included and the 10″ display offers 1024 x 600 resolution. Pity that didn’t get bumped to 1366 x 768, but then again, the price would likely crest the $400 mark. The 15-hour battery life claim comes from the standard 6-cell battery, which sounds aggressive to me. A real-world usage scenario is likely to nab at least 11 or 12 hours, though, and that likely eliminates the need for a second battery or toting the AC adapter.

How to Make a Hudson Bay Blanket Capote

My question does anyone make these capote’s?

How to Make a Hudson Bay Blanket Capote [1]
(Indian Blanket Coat)
Authentic Winter Garment of Primitive Hunters and Trappers, Mountain Men, Fur Traders, Voyageurs, Buckskiners, Explorers, Hunters, Indians, Muzzle Loading Buffs, and Boy Scouts!
Easily assembled by hand, in three to five hours!

Layout

Spread out your blanket and plan to lay out your capote in the illustrated fashion.  Old timers didn't waste things, so try to arrange your pieces to leave the scrap pieces large enough to make mittens, boot liners, neck scarves, and most of all, a sash to tie around your waist to hold the garment closed.  The sash may have to be pieced, depending on size and layout of pieces selected.  Hood may be nicely made from two halves, and joined down the center.

Measurements

Before you can lay out your pieces, you must take your measurements:

First, figure out how big you are around the body.  Measure the chest, hips, or gut, (whichever is the largest, usually around shoulders).  Don't cheat!
Mark it down.  GIRTH = ______ inches

Copy_of_capote4.gif (1344 bytes)

Copy_of_capote6.gif (2127 bytes)

Second, figure out how long you want the coat.  Measure from the center of the shoulder, down as far as you want the coat to go.  Old-timers had 'em mid-calf length (approximately 8" below the knee)
Mark it down.  LENGTH = ______ inches

Next, measure from the center of one armpit, around the back to the center of the other (no illustration).
Mark it down.  ARMPIT SPAN = ______ inches

Last, measure from the center neck (back) to the outer wrist.  Subtract half of the distance between the arm slits (see body detail for dimensions).
Mark it down.  SLEEVE = ______ inches

Body Detail

Now decide on style, either

Button Closure (civilized), or

Overlap (Wide) Closure (primitive).

Layout pattern, as shown, and note that:

Girth + Closure Overlap is parallel to stripe.

Length is perpendicular to the stripe.

Remember to add 6" to girth if buttons are used, and 14" if a simple overlap closure is used.

Copy_2_of_capote96b2.gif (9501 bytes)

When cutting this section, snip and tear the blanket to the desired shape.  Cut edges will fray, torn edges won't fray in this wool material.

When the body panel is complete, fold it to find the centerline (backbone), and space the armhole slits evenly on either side of this line, as shown.

The distance between these lines must be equal to Armpit Span + 2" for small sizes, 3" for medium sizes, and 4" for large sizes.  Cut slits approximately 7" deep, which is slightly short.  they should be deepened later, when sleeves are sewn on (see sleeve detail).

Hood Detail

Cut the hood, as shown.  The hood is shown "standard size" which is large enough to accommodate a fur hat under the hood.  For smaller sizes, cut as shown and then pin it together and trim excess, but we like this large size!

Note: Hood can be made from 2 pieces and joined along the center line.  Use Blanket Stitch, and be certain that stripes line up.

Button Hole Detail

Cut a slit just large enough to accommodate button.  Stitch around button hole with "blanket stitch," to protect and finish edge.  Buttons should be centered in their holes and attached last.

Hood Attachment Detail

Stitch from outer shoulder towards neck, 1/3 of width from each side.  Center back edge of hood with center-line (backbone) of body.  Attach hood to this middle third (hood on inside, body overlap on outside), and continue to run hood along top edge of front flap.  Blanket Stitch both inside and outside of this seam, since inside will show when hood is down.

Blanket Stitch Styles

Practice makes perfect, and all of these are simple:

Copy_2_of_capote8.gif (6587 bytes)

Decide:

With cuff (civilized) or

Without cuff (primitive)

(If cuff is desired, add 3 inches to sleeve)

Copy_of_capote98.gif (4129 bytes)

The sleeve must be cut (not torn).  The 4 inch extension is used for attachment to the body, and shoulder fringe.  Fringe is recommended as being authentic and it aids drying of the shoulder seam.  It can be trimmed off later, if desired.  Do not cut the extension into fringe until garment is complete.  Strands should be at least 1/2 inch wide, as narrow strands may break off.

Blanket Stitch Detail

Learn how to make a "blanket stitch" as shown.  It's easy, just go back with your needle and hook the last cross stitch.  Note that the stitching is directional, and some edges and seams must be approached from certain directions.  Arrange the stitch and direction so that the "chain" line of yarn covers the raw edge.  A little practice on a scrap remnant is worthwhile.  Pin each section and check fit before stitching.

Sleeve Attachment Detail

Fold back the 4" extension, forming a "cuff" at the shoulder end.  Insert this end into the armhole silt approximately 1" and stitch around the edge of the slit with blanket stitch.

Copy_of_capote97.gif (3745 bytes)

Note: sleeve seam goes at bottom, and that the "notch" out of the shoulder fringe cuff is designed to prevent a bulky wad under the arm.

Making a Bushcraft Olive Oil Lamp

Why Use Olive Oil? [1]

For thousands of years, people have used olive oil as a way to flavor food, but also as a source of light and heat. Among Jews, Eastern Orthodox Christians, and Muslims, olive oil is considered sacred. It is used in many religious rituals and ceremonies as a fuel for lights, lamps, and lanterns.

Olive oil has a very high flash point (190 degrees Celsius for virgin oil, and 210 degrees Celsius for refined oil), which means it does not burn as easily as other vegetable-based oils. Olive oil is also odorless when burned, although you can add other aromatics like herbs to give the burning oil a pleasant scent.

While olive oil used for cooking may be used for lamps, certain grades of oil may be used for lighting purposes:

  • Lampanate oils are a grade of olive oil used exclusively for burning. Lampanate oils are not fit for cooking or human consumption.
  • Aged oils. Old batches of olive oil can be used for some recipes in the kitchen, but they’re a cheaper source of fuel for oil lamps than extra virgin olive oil. Aged oils also have a higher smoke point.
  • Rancid oils. Instead of throwing away rancid batches of olive oil, you can still use it as a fuel for olive oil lamps. The fuel itself may smell bad, but the burning oil will not release any unpleasant smell.

A Hearty Thank you

thank-you To who ever was involved in fixing the problem with Blogger.com and Windows Live Writer.  For a while I could not use it if I was going to include Pictures or videos… Thank you.

Looking that Norton Ink's - "Adam"

The Norton Ink's Adam a tablet computer, made a big splash at the CES 2010 this year. It appears to be about the same size as the Apple iPad, but ticw the battery life and supports Flash. That is good news to hear. The bad new is that it will be coming out the the 3rd and 4th quarters of the year,  that is not good if you are looking for gotta have it now thing.

The Norton Ink Adam tablet is an Android slate using a Tegra chipset for graphics and an innovative low power display by Pixel Qi. Norton Ink seems to be in the final stages of design with many features that should blow away the Apple iPad, in my humble opion of course, but you tell me.

The battery life is expected to be about 10 hours of on the web surfing using Wi-Fi, listening to your favorite music or watch the hottest videos. Of course it is the display that play a huge role in the battery life of the Adam, this is where Norton Ink gives thanks to the architecture of the Pixel Qi display, which is a power miser. Norton Ink currently has two model designs on the table, one being slimmer than the first. I am sure they are weighing the pro and con of which model will win out, or possible have two model based on customer desires, that is just a thought.

I look forward to the final out come and pricing on the Adam, I am sure they with want to be as price competitive as possible to under cut Apple's slice of the tablet pie.

A new Friend and SNOW!

SNOWING
First it is snowing here in Dadeville, Alabama, already 2 to 3 inches in 7 hours. I have already lost the cable once today. Oh My not that!  Only in the deep south can the whole world come to a screaming halt over a little snow! So if ya do not hear from me in a day or two come dig me out! LOL. Well I would rather have snow now than at Easter, like we have have in the pass. As I am typing this blog it looks like the snow is slowing down,  maybe it will be all gone by tomorrow. Shucks!! You all send me more Snow!! There is enough maybe to make a mini-snowman, certainly not enough for a snow fort! Hurry before it all melts. LOL.

Next a new friend has found his way to my  many blogs.  He is a member of BROL as well. Looks like we share many of the same hobbies and joys. Hi Joel! Look for his blog entries on my side bar, maybe he will popup to the top ten frequently.  Joel have you used the new page feature on Blogger.com yet? If so call me on skype and let's talk. We can talk about our trikes and camera's and our shooting interest... But  really I am still on hold with much of my life till I get benefits or someone takes a chance on letting me do something... I am injuried with pain most of the time but NOT dead people.... I can do things - just not all day long things.  Well later guys..... See ya soon Joel.
